Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) stands as a significant contributor to mortality rates, reduced work capacity, and diminished quality of life among globally. The primary symptom of CHD is angina pectoris—a gripping, pressing pain often felt behind the sternum during physical exertion. This pain may radiate to the left arm, neck, or lower jaw, but subsides during rest or with the use of nitroglycerin.
In 98% of cases, the clinical symptoms of CHD stem from narrowed coronary arteries, which supply the heart muscle with oxygen. This disparity between oxygen delivery and consumption intensifies during increased cardiac stress. To confirm the diagnosis and determine optimal treatment strategies, coronary angiography—a diagnostic “gold standard”—is often required following standard methods such as ECG, echocardiography, and graded exercise tests.
When vessel stenosis exceeds 70%, intervention becomes necessary to restore blood flow—known as revascularization. This process involves two approaches: internal vessel restoration through stenting (endoprosthesis implantation) or external bypass through coronary coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
Our institute’s pioneering doctors, Dr. Berestovenko and Dr. Furkalo, performed the first coronary artery stenting in Ukraine back in 1996. Since then, we have successfully conducted tens of thousands of coronary angiograms and thousands of stenting procedures. Our institute handles both scheduled interventions and emergency cases, such as acute coronary syndrome resulting from myocardial infarction.
Coronary bypass surgery offers another vital solution by bypassing narrowed artery segments using autogenous veins or arteries. Academician Hennadiy Knyshov performed the first coronary bypass in Ukraine, establishing a legacy that continues today. Each year, our institute carries out approximately a thousand bypass operations, with an impressive 98% performed on a “beating” heart without the need for artificial blood circulation. We have developed our own renowned school of expertise in this field, with excellent surgic9al outcomes.
At our institute, we are dedicated to restoring your life and vitality through advanced treatments for coronary heart disease.
